14.02.06: happy valentine´s day

happy valentine´s day! i am staying true to my "yankee" roots (as locals out here call us) and hopefully will take my valentine out for a nice thai dinner this evening. that, unfortunately, depends on something that i will now take the liberty to vent about.

the thing that i struggle the most with this job is...waiting. waiting yesterday afternoon for the project manager to check my work (which didn´t happen).  now waiting again...and then again for the account manager to check the work that i had to wait for the project manager to check yesterday.  and what kills me the most is that no one else has the sense of urgency to finish up and leave. once you hit eight p.m., people start losing focus, hanging around, planning on what to order for dinner, getting distracted.  the level of efficiency takes a sharp downturn as the night goes on.  it´s no wonder spain ranks among the lowest countries in the E.U. in regard to productivity performance (and i´ve heard that we rank the 3rd highest in number of work hours per capita. no siestas in catalunya, let me tell you that).

so time´s ticking and to be honest, i´d rather be working productively now than writing this post. if the account manager doesn´t show up from his beer with his colleague at the bar down the street in half an hour, i´m out of here and on my way to dinner.  hopefully this vent will make the nice dinner all the nicer. but we shall see...
